Learning to sew

The beginners/improvers sewing course; 12hrs spread over four Saturday mornings, ended this week with much progress made... It was a great succes!

week1 was focused on the machine, getting to grips with threading, bobbin winding, trouble shooting, sewing in a straight line and making bunting to get used to stitching. Week 2 we looked and made examples of various seams and hems inc. French seam, Flatfell. We also looked at the various pressure feet, and experimented with a narrow hemming foot. Week 3 we leapt ahead and made bags with zipped inner pocket, outer patch pocket and button fastening. Week 4 After tracing a pattern with a tracing wheel, made a top with french seams and tidy bias bound piped sleeve and neck hems. With a pattern to take home to practice with.
